It's starting to look like Christmas!

Hello to all,

I haven't posted since Halloween! I think I will try and post more in the New Year 2017. I wouldn't hold me to that. I don't think the cross stitch community is into blogging as much as they once were. I think most have moved onto being in groups on Facebook or Instagram. I like both of those and yet I still feel a need to post on a blog from time to time. Instagram is okay and I like the use of posting one picture and saying a little something about it. I also like the fact that you can find many others who love cross stitch. The only thing I don't like is you can't post multiple pictures of something you finished. I guess you could put a collage of pictures together using a program and then posting it. What fun is that?

However Blogging is still my number one choice since that is really how I started posting about my cross stitching. I'm starting to get back to blogging and I'm into my cross stitch again after what seemed to have gone missing for at least a year.

The other thing I started enjoy doing is learning to knit. I'm liking that and it's nice to take a break from cross stitch and do some knitting.

So if you have read this far I guess you would like to see what I've been stitching on these past few months.

First up in 2013 I had stitched up Plum Street Samplers freebie SAL called Mary's Sampler. I decided to finish it into a cube using a tutorial by Vonna from The Twisted Stitcher. This was my first attempt at making this cube. It was very easy and I was surprised at how fast it came together.

I love it! This was a Christmas gift for my Aunt and I gave it to her early so she can display it in her home early. She loves it!!!

The next item I want to share is a pattern by Joy of the Needle(no longer online) titled Wise Men. This one I wanted to finish into a Mounted Flat Fold. I used 32 count white linen, Victorian Motto Shoppe Hand Dyed Floss and Gold Mill Hill Beads. I decided to put this into a Mounted Flatfold. I used a Video Tutorial by Vonna "The Twisted Stitcher" on Youtube. This was another fun project. It takes time to do but so worth it when your finished.

This was a gift for my Aunt's best friend Jack. He has it displayed in his front foyer for all to see.

I wanted to do another flatfold for my Aunt. I started a pattern by Little House Needleworks Joy to the World pattern. I used 32 count fabric and DMC floss. I started this two weeks ago. I finished it December 9, 2016.

I used Vonna's  Mounted Flatfold Video Tutorial again. If you have never tried Vonna's tutorials before you should give them a try. You won't be disappointed. Vonna has many to choose from!

What am I stitching on now? On October 12, 2016 I had started a pattern by Cherrywood Design Studios(no longer online) Gift pattern. I stitched on it here and there but was busy with the other 3 stitching projects. Yesterday I sat down and stitched on it some more and hoping to get it finished this week. I'm itching to start a new project for myself!

Sorry the fabric looks washed out. The color fabric is the one above. Thanks for stopping by. I hope everyone has a wonderful week. If you want to follow me on instagram my name is crossingonestitch. You can also use the widget on my sidebar.

Hugs in stitches,
Carolyn

Hallowe'en Trick or Treat Blog Hop 2016

Hello and Happy Halloween!

It's that time of year for Jo's annual Hallowe'en Trick or Treat Blog Hop. Jo assigns each blogger/participant a letter to spell out a mysterious phrase. You will have to visit each blog along the way to get a letter. Once you have all the letters you head back over to Jo's blog with the phrase and enter for a chance to win a prize.

I have a letter but first you need to see what spooky stitching I want to share with you.

The design is a freebie pattern by Sampler Maker's Farmhouse(our pioneer homestead). To finish this piece I used Vonna the Twisted Stitcher's  felt mounted tutorial. Vonna has a lot of tutorials and even has a you tube channel. I love how my finish turned out. See that pumpkin in the picture? I've had that since i was a little girl. Here is a throwback picture of me holding the pumpkin. What a blast from the past!

Okay I know your wanting the letter but you will have to scroll down for it and visit the next blog on this hop for another letter!

You will have to visit A Patchwork of Crafts for the next letter. Have a safe and Happy Halloween!!!!

Finally a stitching update!

Hello to  everyone,
Can you believe its the middle of October all ready? Don't forget this weekend is IHSW.  Do you have any plans for stitching this weekend? Click on the icon and you can find out all about IHSW.

Yes..I have been stitching. I wanted to get some early stitching done for Christmas this year. I found a pattern that I've been wanting to stitch for sometime. Its a freebie design by Joy of the Needle(no longer online). Its titled Wise Men Ornament. I used 32 count white linen. I used Victorian Motto Shoppe Hand-Dyed floss. The pattern calls for some stitched stars to be placed around the center. I tried to stitch those so called stars and I have fought it long enough. I will probably place some small red beads in its place. I just can't get those stars to lay right and look straight. Darn it!

I want to finish this into a flat fold. I purchased some fabric from Joann's that will go perfect with this piece.

For the IHSW I will be working on Cherrywood Desgin Studios dictionary series Gift. I started it yesterday afternoon.

Wouldn't this make a cute no sew cube? I think that's how I will finish this pattern.

That is all I have for stitching updates. I hope everyone has a wonderful stitching weekend.

Jo's Big BIRTHDAY Blog Hop!

Hello and Welcome to my blog!

Who is Jo and what is this big BIRTHDAY blog hop all about?

Jo is a longtime stitching blogger of Serendipitous Stitching  came up with a great idea to help her celebrate a "Big Zero Birthday in September."

Jo said "My plan is to attempt to get one Person per year of my life and allocate each person a year.  I will give you a Fact About Me from that year and ask you to base your post on that fact."

The year is  1972 - Jo was 6.  The family had bought their own home close to Jo's Grandparents.  It had no bathroom, an outside toilet and a big hole in the roof but it was affordable!  Jo went to the local Primary School and was very excited to receive a Timex watch for her 6th Birthday.  She could already tell the time and was very proud to help the teacher whose own watch was not so reliable!  The family pet is now a gerbil called Jeremy.  The cat had decided to stay with the grandparents.

In 1972 I turned 5 years old and started Kindergarten in September. At that time we were living in Maryland. Here is a picture of me celebrating my birthday.

It seems Jo and I are close in age. Is there anything in that picture that brings back memories for anyone else?

Then Jo also asked us to post a photo of something we've stitched which we think will appeal to her.

In 2009 The Cat's Whiskers came out with a pattern The Peacock Stitching Chair. It came with a booklet with a pattern, templates for the chair pieces, 4 clips to go with the 4 chair feet. This was my first attempt at stitching on the 32 count fabric it called for and using the hand dyed silk floss colors. The stitching was the easy part. Then the hardest part for me was putting the pieces and then sewing it all together. I stuck with it. It's not a perfect chair but I did it all on my own. It now sits on a shelf down my hallway.

Jo, I wish you a wonderful day on your BIRTHDAY!!!!! Have a great day and I hope you get lots of stitching goodness!!!!!!!! Thank you for letting me help you celebrate your big day. I can't wait for your next blog hop!

Head on over to Jo's BLOG see what happened next in her life.
